Good timing too, what with the disheartening waste of money for which our electeds just voted. The whole article is worth your time, and is entertaining. Here an appetizer… “Yes, we started it, not Russia, in 2014 with our Intel blob overthrowing elected President Viktor Yanukovych in the so-called ‘Maidan Revolution of Dignity’ (what Wikipedia calls it). And for what reason? To jam Ukraine into NATO as a prelude to “weakening” Russia sufficient to bust it up and gain control over Russian oil, ores, and grain.”

Yogi Berra said, probably, “its hard to make predictions, especially about the future.”
He could have said its equally hard to agree upon what exactly happened in the past.
At the end of the day, the Russians did with conventional means what the Iranians and Pakistanis did with unconventional means, namely, respond to a push into what was perceived into the Russian/Iranian/Pakistani sphere of influence by Western, namely US stalking horses.
Now, the answer was either to suborn those interests to our ends, recognize the limits of US combat power, or punch a bitch in the nose. Perhaps all three.
However, few in DC are capable of thinking in these terms.
